Annual mugwort tincture

The Irish-born parasitologist William C. Campbell and the Japanese biochemist Satoshi Omura share one half of the 2015 Nobel Prize, which is worth more than 850,000 euros. The committee recognized the researchers for their development of the active ingredient avermectin, which combats nematode infections.

Chinese pharmacologist Youyou Tu gets the other half for her discovery that an extract from mugwort, called artemisinin, inhibits the growth of Plasmodium, which causes malaria.
